Choosing just Merc or Merc AMG Sport
13/05/2019
Brakes absolutely the strongest I’ve tried – gives great braking confidence even at very high speeds.
Having owned C250 AMG Sport (diesel) for nearly two years, now able to share my honest experience with this car.
Why C class
A quick story about the choice and what lead me towards this car. I was looking for a car which would not be boring to drive and would also look good from inside and outside. Not a fan of big cars, prioritizing handling and agility. A car within a budget and the features I was looking for at that moment was Mercedes C class. I was aiming for 2012-2014 at that time because these models had a much nicer interior.
AMG sport is a must
At first, I have tried Elegance (basically non-AMG Sport) version of one – drives like Merc but seemed too boring to own one. Not my car. Then I test drove the same C model with slightly more power and sports pack – surprisingly that was a completely different beast! A car was quite lively, 7G-Tronic Plus gearbox added to it too, handling was precise and to be fair sounded not so much like a diesel either when revved higher. C250 CDI with AMG Sport trim, adaptive lights and nav – drove nicely and looked sporty as well, had a “Sport” mode button too that actually made quite a difference.
Handling and performance
Top speed on a spec sheet is 240kph, however, did not try to intentionally reach it, ended up with 230kph (thanks to German highway freedom). Brakes absolutely the strongest I’ve tried – gives great braking confidence even at very high speeds. Vented discs with additional holes in front and vented in the rear. Low suspension, wider tires at the back. Stiff but still absorbing small bumps well. Noise isolation – not the top performer, but still quite good. 150kW quite delivers considering the engine size and is fun to drive. Reliability – no issues and surprisingly no oil topping up between change even at 75k miles on the clock (mileage till I kept it).
