River Cam boat tour in Cambridge

Cambridge colleges were started by monks and and funded with money of merchants in the year 1284.
New Saturday – new location. After looking at potential destinations on the National Heritage map we have decided to put castles and ruins of historical places aside and headed to Cambridge one more time! This time we took a boat tour on the River Cam, guided by a man who introduced himself as James. James was really full of interesting information and touched many historical facts about Cambridge, it’s colleges and even the parties that are about to start on Sunday. It is now a time when students celebrate the end of academic year and party. For insiders such celebration event ticket can cost £250, while if you’re not a student or part of education community in Cambridge, you won’t even get a chance to buy one.
Cambridge was not the first place in the UK where college education was introduced. It was in Oxford. Cambridge colleges were started by monks and and funded with money of merchants in the year 1284. Many colleges, universities, libraries and even student accommodation rooms are in those old historic buildings. That must be an authentic experience to study and live there! We continued our boat ride on the River Cam and I’ve put a few pictures together in my gallery below.
